Notifications
The Serve app can send notifications to volunteers' phones for new posts, replies and events.
Turn them on (volunteers)
Notifications only work when the app is on your home screen. On an iPhone they don't work in Safari. See Add it to your home screen.
The first time you open the app from your home screen:
- Tap Continue.
- Tap Turn on notifications.
- When your phone asks, tap Allow.
To turn them on later, go to Me, tap the bell at the top right and tap Turn on.
Under Send me, choose what you want to hear about:
- New posts
- Replies to me
- Every comment
Some of these may be set by your church and can't be changed.
What sends a notification
- A post is published with Send a push notification turned on.
- Staff tap Remind them on a post you haven't read.
- Someone replies to your comment, or comments on a post (if you chose Every comment).
- An event that asks for an RSVP is published, or staff ask again.
- Weekly celebration posts, if your church turned on Notify the team.
The app doesn't send reminders for attendance, prayer or care.
Set the defaults (staff)
Go to Volunteers > App > Setup > Notifications. For each type, choose whether it's On by default and whether Volunteers can change it.
Who is on it shows how many volunteers have Push on.
Not getting notifications?
- The app needs to be on the home screen, opened from there at least once.
- Notifications might be blocked. On iPhone, go to Settings > Notifications > Ministry Toolkit and turn on Allow Notifications. On Android, check the app's notification settings.
- Signing out turns off notifications on that phone. Turn them back on from the bell at the top right of Me after signing in.
- The post might not have had notifications on. Posts published without Send a push notification show up next time you open the app.
