Groups

Groups is where you run your small groups: rosters, leaders, placing new students, group health, curriculum and prayer. Group leaders see their group, lessons and roster in the Serve app.

Words you'll see

  • Group type: a kind of group, like "Middle School Small Groups". The type decides how attendance is taken and owns its seasons and curriculum calendar.
  • Season: a stretch of time a group runs, like "Fall 2026". A group only belongs to the seasons you add it to.
  • Attendance mode:
    • Leader takes attendance: the leader takes roll in the Serve app.
    • Auto from check-in: the group is part of a bigger check-in (like youth group night), so attendance comes from who checked in.
  • Not yet active: a student placed in a group who hasn't come enough times to count as a regular. They show on the roster but aren't counted in health numbers or sent to CCB.
  • Grade range: a named set of grades, like Middle School (6th to 8th), used to plan curriculum.
